Lahore to Host the PSL Final match on March 7, 2017
PCB assured PSL Final 2017 in Lahore
In what will come as an excellent news for Pakistan cricket fans, the final of the Pakistan Super League will be played in Lahore on March 7. This has been confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board but the big question now is whether the overseas players will travel to the country to participate in that game because of their security concerns. 10 International players have agreed to play in Lahore for the finals.
The information on the PSL 2017 final tickets will be announced at a later date but what’s known is that the game will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. What one would now hope for is that the psl final tickets would all be sold to the fans and not given away to sponsors and corporates instead.
PSL 2017 Final Ticket Price: The ticket prices for the Imran Khan enclosure and Fazal Mahmood enclosure of the Gaddafi stadium may be priced around PKR 10,000 or more. The tickets for the general enclosures of the stadium having no chairs may be sold at a starting price of PKR 500.
According to a report in ESPNCricinfo.com, the PCB said it has been decided the PSL 2 Final will be in Lahore and players who were unwilling to travel to the country would be replaced in a new Draft that would be held in the last week of February. In case of the distinct possibility that no overseas player decides to travel to Pakistan, the PSL might bring in Pakistan cricketers to feature in the final.
According to PCB’s head of executive committee, Najam Sethi, the draft draw will be made on which teams make the final and which of the players from those teams refuse to travel to the country to feature in the game. He added: “We will probably need about five to ten players for Lahore, and those players who would be available from the discarded three teams who can then get picked through this draft for the final.” Recently, Sethi also confirmed that PSL 3 2018 final will be held in Karachi.
Some of the things that the PCB have done with respect to ensuring the PSL final can be held in Lahore are:
- Got assurances from Punjab government and security agencies.
- Bought four bulletproof buses so that they can convince players about safety
- Trying to make a fly-in, fly-out arrangement in order to ensure they don’t spend too much time in the country
The international players’ association, FICA is yet to give a green signal to the plan though and has said there are still risks involved with playing cricket in Pakistan for overseas players. An independent assessment is still to be completed, however, and that will play a big role in the foreign players deciding for or against featuring in the final.
What do you think of this move by the PCB? Do you think the PSL final in Lahore should take place?
